President Donald Trump signed an executive order waiving sweeping Graham Act sanctions and tariffs on Russia just days before they were due to take effect, according to ABC News. He cited the US "national interest," per New York Post.

The waiver follows Trump's earlier signal of relief for Russia's sanctioned oil tanker fleet, which drove oil prices down, and now suspends the Graham Act package in full. It clears the way for a diesel supply deal with Moscow that analysts say may benefit Putin more than Washington, according to CNBC.

The move comes as Ukraine's government publicly breaks with Washington over the war, per Al Jazeera, and as Russian strikes killed at least eight people and cut power to a million people in Ukraine, Al Jazeera reported.
