The Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on Russia's "shadow fleet" tankers, according to Arabian Gulf Business Insight. Oil prices fell on the report, with Investing.com noting traders are also watching IEA reserve-release plans.
The move would counter an earlier push by six US senators and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who pressed Washington to close enforcement gaps in Russia sanctions, not widen them.
The shadow fleet is one of the main channels Moscow uses to keep selling oil above Western price caps. A US retreat on enforcement, as Russia strikes Ukraine's energy grid, would blunt a core economic lever against the war and test Washington's sanctions resolve.
